Brian Gonzalez, of Holyoke, is charged with murder in the slaying of David Rivera on June 1, the Hampden District Attorney’s Office said.

Holyoke police were called to the 400 block of High Street around 2 a.m. to reports of a shooting that happened during an argument. Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, and responders rushed him to Baystate Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man's name was not released, but the prosecutor's office said he is recovering from his wounds.

Police found Rivera, 31, of Springfield, in his car on the shoulder of High Street a block away, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was also taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he later died of his wounds, authorities said.

A judge ordered Gonzalez held without bail, the prosecutor said. He is scheduled to return to court on July 18.
